Personal Commitment and Agreement

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Mel Reyes, and I have spent decades in cybersecurity, IT, and community building and am now an executive coach and trainer. I’m writing to you with deep humility and respect to announce the formation of the ISSA SoCal Chapter.

As a leader in our industry and someone who has always been passionate about fostering growth, I am genuinely committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and transparent environment where all members can learn, share, and grow. My vision for the future of ISSA SoCal centers on empowering each of you to reach your full potential, supporting your education and development, and motivating you to achieve your personal and professional goals.

The origination of the ISSA SoCal is my strong belief that now is the time to build a path to bringing new ideas and diverse perspectives to meet the challenges of today’s cybersecurity landscape.

My goal as President is to honor the ISSA International mission and ethics while pushing us forward into a brighter, more inclusive future.

As a leader, I hold myself to the highest standards of transparency and accountability. I want to be clear that the ISSA SoCal is entirely separate from my roles in the industry and my work as a global executive coach and trainer. These are distinct paths that I manage with integrity, ensuring there are no conflicts of interest. I fully understand the importance of maintaining boundaries between these roles to uphold the trust you place in me.

Moreover, I am putting in writing my commitment to transparency and openness. If at any point there are concerns, questions, or even suggestions of impropriety, I welcome all inquiries. You have my word that I will address them openly and honestly. This chapter’s future is built on trust, and I am dedicated to earning and maintaining yours every step of the way.

To that end, I pledge to work tirelessly to:

  • Sponsor and support educational programs that help you grow in your career and stay ahead of cybersecurity trends.

  • Create leadership opportunities for all including women, young professionals, and underrepresented voices in our field.

  • Ensure a transparent decision-making process so you always know where the chapter stands and where it’s heading.

  • Foster collaboration and networking opportunities that connect you with peers, mentors, and industry experts.
